In 1999, Founder Jay Claxton CPP, CLSD established HotelSafety.org as a website for security professionals and those involved in security and policing. He collaborated with the Anaheim Police Department in Orange County, California, and the Orange County Sheriff's Department in Florida to enhance tourism safety, alerting hotels, restaurants, and transportation companies to the dangers of fraud and criminal activity.
Security professionals used the website to share information on criminal activity with other hotels and police departments, such as Anaheim. There was a strong emphasis on tourism policing, with the Crime Alert Bulletins being circulated in the Anaheim resort area.
After taking a break in 2005, Jay finally revamped the website and started helping travelers and hotels/resorts simultaneously.
